Jeff Coats
President
Jeff is the founding member and President of JS Coats Capital. He oversees the company and originates mortgages on behalf of correspondent life insurance companies, banks, CMBS lenders, agency lenders, debt funds, and credit unions. Jeff has been in the real estate and financial services industries for 3 decades, arranging financing on commercial real estate throughout the U.S. – primarily in the Western United States, including the Hawaiian Islands. Over this time, he has sourced well over $3 billion in debt and equity for institutional borrowers, high net worth individuals, and legacy family organizations. Jeff’s customers rely on him to provide reliable quotes which are specific to their needs.
Prior to starting JS Coats Capital, Jeff was Regional Director and Senior Vice President with Intervest Mortgage in Seattle. Before that, he originated commercial real estate loans for Washington Mutual and Pacific First Bank.
In his free time, you may find Jeff hanging out with his family, working on one of his many projects, golfing, or tinkering on a classic car.
“After 25 years of working for banks and bank-owned mortgage companies, I was ready for a change. Navigating big company politics, bureaucracy, compliance, and corporate culture had become more important than getting the job done, so I made the decision to follow a lifelong dream and start my own company. I resigned from my Regional Director position and formed JS Coats Capital on July 4, 2015 (fittingly, Independence Day) to establish my separation from the bank. Along with my trusted colleague and multi-talented friend, Karen Dolen, we set out to create a company centered around people who: 1) were fun to work with, and 2) had a quiet confidence about their ability to do their jobs better than others. Quite clearly, having a team of good people is the core of any successful company, but it is amazing to me how often this is overlooked.
At JS Coats, we are a tight-knit group. Because we enjoy who we work with on a personal level, we work well together professionally. To sum it up, we consider ourselves a family of sorts. Families are comprised of people who have different talents, personalities, and unique ways of getting things done, yet can anticipate needs and reactions of other family members without asking or being told.
